It’s late August and there’s only one thing on every girls mind-WHAT TO WHERE TO SCHOOL! With styles always changing, it’s hard to know whot’s hot, and what’s not. Hopefully showing you the greatest school trends will help you be the most stylish girl in school.

Plaid Shirts- Plaid, gingham and checks are all the craze right now. Weather it’s on dresses, shorts, shirts or purses, it’s completly fabulous. The must-have plaid item of this all is the plaid shirt.

Coloured Jeans-Rather than wearing classic yet plain blue jeans, try bright and bold colours like mint green, turquoise, pureple and red. You will really stand out against your classmates in coloured jeans.

Fringes- Show up to school in style with a big fringe bag, you can fit all you books and bags in it and plus, you look great with it. Also, you could go with awsome fringed boots instead of the as-seen-EVERYWHERE Uggs.

OR GIRLS IN UNIFORMS, HERE IS A WAY TO PUMP UP YOUR SCHOOL OUTFIT.

Most schools skirts are knee lenght or longer, but if and ONLY if your school is flexable, try folding the waistband a few times to make it a little shorter, just don’t go full mini!

Try putting a simple belt over your shirt, but don’t use the studded punk belts until the weekend. Just aq simple belt with complimentry or contrasing colours will do great. If there is a tie is the ensemble take it off after school and use it as a belt.

You could also try headbands with bows, cool watches and other jewlery as well. Personalizing your backpack is another great way to stand-out.

I personally know how hard it is to make friends at a new school, especially if you are shy. I have gone to a new school every two years. That’s five schools! these are some tips that helped me get through the transition of making new friends. I hope they work for you!

  • Be your self! I know that is said a lot, but that because it’s true! If you change your self or pretend to be someone you are not, you will attract completely different people.
  • Keep an open mind. If you plan to close up and hide in a corner throughout the year, people will see that and not want to get to know you.
  • Expect changes. If you think everything will stay the same at a new school, you’re dreaming. Know ahead of time that things will change, and you will be able to embrace it better when it happens.
  • Stay in touch with your old friends. It doesn’t matter how far you move, you should always stay in touch with your friends. I am still tight with my buds from grade one, so there is no reason you can’t either.

It is very common for many people to pick at every little thing WE think is wrong with us. I my self did that for 2.5 years before I started the Consciously Cool Club. We zero in on one or several things we believe is wrong with us. Fortunatley, we can take baby steps and make one minor change at a time. With this method, you can improve your overall appearance and self image.

  • Really focus on your posture because improving it will truly make a difference. If you want to possibly appear five pounds thinner, sit and stand up strait! Plus, you can even strengthen your back and shoulder muscles.
  • People really notice a smile, so take care of yours! The more confident you feel about your teeth, the more likely you will smile. Try over the counter teeth whiteners such as Crest White Strips. If you’re to young to use White Strips or your parents won’t let you (UGHHHH!), just make make sure you brush your teeth twice a day and don’t eat or drink tons of food with sugar/acid.
  • Your skin is another really big impact on your self image. Unless you have a skin condition, use a mild skin clenser and wash your face DAILY. You should also use a face lotion and keep your skin hydrated.
  • Get enough sleep. If you don’t get enough you can gain weight, your eyes can become bloodshot and have bags/shadows under them and your wil be exausted. However, if you get to much sleep or lay in bed all day, you can still gain weight and become tired from lack of energy. You should find the ranger of sleep that is right for you, after all, it is called “beauty sleep”.
  • Drink lots of water. This will help give you energy and help with weight maitnence or loss. It also helps with skin appearence.
  • Get exersize daily. Increase in energy and a mood boost will be most immediate results. These effects may not be “physical”, but will automatically make you appear happier and more refreshed. The more you exersize, the healthier your appearance will be.
  • Get hair cuts approximately every three months and if you dye or highlight your hair get it coloured approx. every six months. Depending on the growth of your hair and the amount of time you spend in the sun you may have to ajust the frequency. Ask your stylist for his/her opinion. This will help keep your hair look healthy and improve it’s appearance, which in turn will improve your mood!

We all can agree that we LOVE sunglasses and we all love looking awesome. If this is the case, shouldn’t we wear sunglasses that make us look awesome? Here are some tips that will help you make your eyes look HOT this summer! Hope it helps.

The hottest looks this summer are: metal, black, cat-eye, bright coloured and translucent frames. Using the guide below, try to find these trends in styles that work for YOU.

–If your head is long: aim for wide frames. They give off the illusion that there is less length. Wide ovals, over-sized round frames and aviators are great! Avoid vertical lines and sharp angles, they only make your face look longer.

–If your head is oval: your shape works all types, so experiment with the proportions, styles and sizes.

–If your head is round: Aim to detract from roundness with angular frames. Try squares, rectangles and glasses with high temples. Avoid round and curved styles.

–If your head is heart-shaped: Try frames that dip between the eyes such as a butterfly shape, they reduce the width of the forehead. Avoid styles with hard horizontals across the top and pointed bottoms.

–If your head id square (not literally): Try curved, oval or round frames with long lenses, they soften angles and make face appear longer. Avoid squares, rectangles and any hard angles.

This is a sequel to one of my older posts from May. This is a topic for my older readers. I apologize for the delays, there is just so much to write about.

There can be a negative impact in your life due to alcohol. Whether someone is drinking underage or having a good time at the bar with friends, they all need to understand how to drink responsibly and stay within their alcohol tolerance level. Here’s how to stay responsible while drinking alcohol, whether at a party, at the bar, or anywhere else.

  • Stop drinking if you start to feel drunk. Symptoms of intoxication include blurry vision, slurred speech, and difficulty with maintaining your balance.
    • If you are drunk, switch to drinking water for a while. This will also help to ease the pain of hangover the next day. Generally, one hour per drink is a good rule of thumb.
  • Stop drinking if you vomit. While this is generally a given, it’s important that you don’t attempt to drink any more alcohol—even if you do start to feel much better after doing so. Vomiting is a signal that your body can’t take the amount of alcohol that you have consumed.
  • Know your limit. If this is your first time drinking, it’s important to keep your pace, so that you can come to learn your alcohol tolerance.
  • Never get into a car with a stranger if you are intoxicated. Alcohol affects your sense of judgment. Get his/her number and wait until you are sober before you decide to pursue him/her further.
    • Similarly, never get into a car with a driver that is drunk, regardless of the circumstances.
  • Make sure you know how to get home by heart. If you get drunk to the point of losing your memory, your self-preservation will kick in and will drive you to try to get home. If you don’t know how to get home, you probably shouldn’t go out drinking
  • Buy a drink with ingredients that you are familiar with. It’s good to try something out for the first time, like a “Sunset on Saturn” or a beer that you haven’t had before, but be aware of what the alcohol content is. You may not always be able to detect the strength of the alcohol in your drink. Some contents can bring up your Blood Alcohol Concentration more quickly than others, depending on your weight and alcohol tolerance.

Tips:

  • Always remember, that you are drinking to enjoy and have fun, not to show off. The whole point of drinking is to enjoy the drink, enjoy the company and feel free. You don’t need to “keep up,” or engage in stupid competitions that could ruin the night.
  • Know your limits. If you get wasted every time you drink and do stupid things, or your friends have to take you home because you are knocked out, eventually nobody will want to drink with you anymore, or they will leave you alone and unprotected.
  • Warnings:

    • Do NOT mix energy drinks with alcohol. The feeling of drunkenness is subdued by energy drinks which is dangerous because it inhibits one’s ability to judge one’s limit and increases one’s risk of alcohol poisoning.
    • Don’t resort to drinking for problematic reasons. While going to a bar with some friends for the Superbowl isn’t necessarily a problem, the same can’t be said if you’re turning to the bottle of Whiskey after breaking up with your significant other.
    • If you drink, don’t even think about driving. Walk home, call a taxi cab, or ask someone for a ride. A DUI usually costs around $10,000—and that’s if you are lucky enough to have been caught before killing someone, or yourself, on the road.
    • Be aware that any amount of alcohol can risk affecting your coordination and state of mind. The extent to which it does this will depend on what you drink, your age, your body mass, and how fast you are drinking. Responsible drinking entails knowing your own limits, drinking in moderation, and being mature about it.

Everything in Summer is hot. The weather, the boys, AND the clothes. It can be a lot of pressure when trying to find cool clothes for summer. So, if you are amoung the many girls, including myself, that are wanting some fab clothes, check out these tips.

    • Dip and Tye-Dye is a big trend for summer. Everything from t-shirts to skirts to bikinis have been dipped with colour.
    • Artistic Splashes are all over everything as we head into Summer. Think abstract, random splashes and drips of paint with romantic, dreamy watercolour backgrounds.
    • Ruffles and Frills are possibly the biggest trend for Summer. Dresses, blouses and t-shirts all being given the frill treatment this year.
    • Mini Floral Prints are also going to be big this season. Floral’s are always huge for summer but we will see a step away from last year’s bold, in-your-face flowers and a move towards cottagey English rose prints.
    • Safari Chic is set to be huge this summer with key colonial pieces already making their way from catwalk to high street.
    • Gladiator, peep toe shoe boots and oversized wedges are in.
    • Over-sized Clutches and Purses are already been seen on the arm of the A-lister and big is the only way with bags this summer.

Grade seven will be tough but not life threatening or something you can’t possibly handle.  If you are worried about what Junior High might be like, know that you are not alone, I am downright scared!  It might be a little terrifying the first few days especially if you are just like me and going in to a new school with approxiamtely 1300 students.  Hopefully with friends by your side, and with these tips, you will get through it problem-free.

    Things you will need:

  • A good attitude
  • Responsibility
  • Dedication
  • Persistence
  • Patience
  • High Self-Esteem (or at least act like it) 2
    • Communication with parents, teachers and friends is key to your success. If you are open and honest, they will return the favor.
    • If you don’t know something: ask questions! Begining to see who is important this time in your life.
    • Ask friends, parents and teachers for help when you need it. Ask them for advice, and question them when necessary. They will learn from you, as you learn from them.
    • Be yourself! Don’t try to change who you are to make more friends. You are all you will ever be, and all you can do is make yourself a better person; but don’t become someone else because it’s who your friends want you to be.
    • Rely on yourself first. Now is the time to learn that you must start doing things for yourself if you haven’t started. Make yourself useful at home. Learn how to do your own laundry, clean up after yourself. Demonstrate your independence when you can. You will appreciate yourself more later in life.
    • Develop good study habits! Being able to focus, study, learn and test will only help your student career. Knowing the best techniques for you will help you achieve more success in high school and college. 6
    • Last, but certainly not least: believe in yourself! Know that you are able to do anything you set your mind to doing. You are your own best friend. Treat yourself with respect and others will, too!

We all feel worthless and unimportant at times, but it is important to know you are fabulous! Nobody’s perfect and we ALL have flaws, but we are ALL spectacular in our own way! I know first hand how hard it is to feel great about yourself when you are picked on all the time, but just ignore them. Easier said than done, but with help from your family, friends, and hopefully me, you will feel so much better about yourself. I know I do!! :)

    1. Talking with your mom, dad, a teacher, a friend, or anyone you really trust is great way to get things off your chest.
    2. Built-up stress, anger or sadness is really bad for you, emotionally, physically, and mentally, so talking to someone is great.
    3. It’s usually pretty easy to tell someone you trust what’s on your mind, but just in case there is something you don’t want to talk about, a diary is a great thing to have around.
    4. Spending time with friends and family and having fun is an awsome way to keep your mind off the negative stuff that’s bring you down, and will make you feel great. Plus you might even get some cool clothes.

    • Colors are all over the place — brights are big, and metallics such as silver, gold, platinum and bronze are big.
    • Other popular choices this year include black and white, navy and natural tones including browns and sage greens.
